Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an event occurring as assessed by traders. Therefore, you may find that this market's implied probabilities differ from those offered by sportsbooks, potentially offering a more accurate assessment of the likely winner. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular player, the price of those shares increases, reflecting a higher perceived chance of victory. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market dynamically adjusts to new information and trading activity, providing a real-time assessment of expectations for the Bakersfield tennis match.
