Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially offering a more accurate forecast than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks may incorporate biases or adjust lines to balance their book, while this market relies on the collective judgment of informed traders. However, discrepancies can occur due to differing information access or risk appetites. It's common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbooks, especially in situations where public sentiment shifts rapidly. Comparing the two can be a useful exercise for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people buy shares in a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds continuously adjust to reflect the latest information and collective intelligence of the traders participating in this market.
