Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the diverse perspectives of individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, the odds on Polymarket will adjust accordingly. It's common to see prediction markets outperform traditional bookmakers over time, particularly when there's strong public interest and informed trading activity.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adapt to new information and changing sentiment among traders, providing a real-time assessment of the event's potential results.
