Generally, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and often prove more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, especially when considering information not fully priced into the sportsbook lines. However, sportsbook odds can sometimes offer value, particularly if they differ significantly from this market. It’s useful to compare the implied probabilities from both sources to identify potential discrepancies and make informed trading decisions. Keep in mind that sportsbooks and prediction markets have different incentives and user bases, which can lead to differing perspectives.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, creating a dynamic and responsive pricing system based on collective intelligence.
