Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish initial lines based on their own analysis, aiming to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the views of many individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced the outcome, the odds on Polymarket may diverge. It's common to see prediction markets incorporate information and insights faster than traditional betting venues, especially as new information emerges before the event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price fluctuates based on supply and demand; increased buying pressure raises the price, indicating growing confidence in that outcome, while selling pressure lowers it. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of those trading it.
