Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly assess the probability of an outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, information access, and risk tolerance among market participants versus sportsbook oddsmakers. If a significant difference exists, it may present an opportunity for arbitrage, where traders can profit by simultaneously betting on both platforms. However, it’s important to remember that prediction markets reflect collective intelligence, not necessarily superior information.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. The current volume indicates the level of interest and confidence in the various potential outcomes of the Székesfehérvár tennis match.
