Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect a more accurate forecast of events than traditional sportsbook odds, as they aggregate the wisdom of the crowd. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets allow participants to directly bet against each other. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities based on different information sources and participant biases. Comparing this market to sportsbook lines can reveal differences in perceived probabilities and potential value opportunities for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its shares will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence of participants.
