Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market is driven by individual traders. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially early on, as prediction markets can quickly incorporate new information and adjust probabilities. Analyzing these differences can be insightful, as both sources attempt to forecast the same event outcome, but through distinct mechanisms. Examining these differences can highlight potential value in either market.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will rise. Conversely, if sentiment shifts towards another outcome, its share price will increase while the original outcome's price decreases. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date collective forecast.
