Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin. This market, however, is driven purely by the collective predictions of traders, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities, especially as the event approaches. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market dynamically adjusts based on a wider range of information and participant viewpoints. It's common to see differences emerge as new information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Soulie vs De Los Reyes match. The price of these shares reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, indicating growing confidence. Conversely, selling pressure drives prices down. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the aggregated wisdom of the crowd.
