Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and incorporate a margin for profit, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs. If a significant discrepancy exists between the two, opportunities for arbitrage may arise. It’s common to see prediction markets move more efficiently and react quicker to new information than sportsbooks, especially as the event approaches and more data becomes available. Comparing these odds can offer a broader perspective on the anticipated outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price fluctuates based on supply and demand, reflecting the collective assessment of the event's likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by trader activity on Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or other prediction markets.
