Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is undervaluing a particular outcome, they may drive the price on Polymarket in that direction. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of supply and demand within the prediction market. It’s valuable to compare both to form a well-rounded view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic creates a market-driven assessment of the potential results of the Apisah vs Sagandykova match, constantly adjusting as new information and opinions emerge.
