Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, potentially incorporating a profit margin. This market, however, is driven by individuals trading based on their own research and beliefs. If there's a significant discrepancy, it could indicate that the market believes a sportsbook has mispriced the probability of a particular outcome. It's common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbooks, especially in the hours leading up to an event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different outcomes. The price of each share reflects the market's assessment of the probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect the collective intelligence of the crowd. This dynamic pricing means the odds can shift rapidly based on news, analysis, or even large trades. The current price of shares indicates the perceived likelihood of each player, Moeka Miyata or Arina Varaksina, winning the match.
