Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on power rankings and expert analysis, while this market incorporates a broader range of information and real-time sentiment. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions on player form, potential upsets, or even external factors like weather conditions. It’s common to see prediction markets react more quickly to new information than sportsbooks, potentially offering more accurate probabilities as the event approaches.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people trade, the price adjusts to reflect the collective prediction. Higher demand for shares in a particular player will drive up their price, indicating a greater perceived chance of victory. The market’s price is determined entirely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket.
