Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective intelligence of traders on Polymarket, aims to reflect the true probability of each outcome. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, prediction markets can quickly adjust to new information and potentially outperform traditional odds, especially as the event approaches and more data becomes available. It's a fascinating comparison to observe.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders can buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice-versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective prediction of the event’s result, offering a unique insight into expectations surrounding the Singapore tennis match.
