Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective wisdom of traders, aims to represent the true probability of an event occurring, though discrepancies can exist due to differing information or risk assessments. It’s common to see prediction markets outperform sportsbooks in accuracy, especially when a significant amount of volume is traded, as information is quickly incorporated into the price.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined by supply and demand, with traders essentially betting against each other. This creates a dynamic and efficient way to forecast the result of the Singapore tennis match, based on the aggregated knowledge of the crowd.
