Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to reflect the true probability of an outcome as assessed by traders. This market, like others, can sometimes show discrepancies with sportsbook lines, potentially identifying situations where the crowd believes a different result is more likely. These differences can arise from varying levels of information and differing opinions between bettors and prediction market participants.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different outcomes. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price movements are driven by supply and demand, influenced by news, analysis, and the overall sentiment of traders participating in this market. This dynamic pricing allows for a constantly updated assessment of the event’s likelihood.
