Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, they can express that view by buying or selling shares, driving the price to potentially diverge from the sportsbook’s offering. It’s common to see prediction markets more accurately reflect true probabilities as the event approaches, especially when substantial volume is traded.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of each share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who buy shares in a particular outcome, the higher its price rises, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of those trading on Polymarket, offering a real-time assessment of the event’s potential results.
