Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets, like this one, are driven purely by supply and demand. This can lead to discrepancies, with prediction markets sometimes offering more favorable odds, particularly when there’s strong disagreement with the wider public opinion. However, it's important to remember that both reflect beliefs about the probability of an outcome, and significant differences may signal interesting opportunities for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand. As more traders believe Kate Bierhoff will win, the price of shares representing her victory will increase, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective wisdom of the crowd and provides a real-time assessment of the expected outcome of the Sharm ElSheikh tennis match.
