Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective intelligence of traders on Polymarket, aims to reflect the true probabilities of each outcome. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, prediction markets can quickly adjust to new information and potentially outperform sportsbook odds as more traders participate and share their insights. It is common to see discrepancies, especially before the event begins.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a specific outcome, its price increases, and the implied probability rises. Conversely, selling pressure decreases the price and probability. This dynamic process ensures that the market price constantly adapts to the latest information and collective wisdom of the traders.
