Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Analyzing these differences can be valuable for informed decision-making, though it's important to remember that both represent probabilities, not guarantees.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event's likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is entirely determined by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or predetermined values.
