Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish lines based on statistical models and their own risk assessment, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If sportsbook odds significantly diverge from those seen here, it could indicate that the market believes the sportsbook is mispricing the probability of a particular result. It’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, but are derived through different mechanisms.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event. Higher demand for shares in a particular outcome will drive its price up, indicating a greater perceived chance of success, while selling pressure will lower the price. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects current expectations.
