Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set their odds based on statistical models and expert opinions, while this market incorporates a broader range of information and perspectives from traders. As more information becomes available – such as player form, weather conditions, or even late-breaking news – the prediction market odds can adjust more rapidly than traditional betting markets. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before the event begins.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where shares are bought and sold, adjusting the price based on supply and demand. The price of a share representing a particular outcome reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the traders. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This means that if many traders believe Josefina Estevez is likely to win, the price of shares representing her victory will increase, and vice versa. The market dynamically updates as new information and opinions are factored in by participants.
