Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance betting action, while this market allows traders to freely adjust probabilities based on their own analysis and information. If there’s a significant discrepancy, it may indicate that the market believes the sportsbook has mispriced the event. Examining these differences can offer insights into where value might exist for informed bettors, though this is not a direct comparison of venues.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the collective intelligence of all participants, constantly updating as new information becomes available. This dynamic pricing allows for a real-time assessment of the likelihood of each player winning the Maanshan tennis match.
