Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from those offered by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often set initial odds to balance their risk, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities. Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of information, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of trading. If you find a significant difference between the odds on Polymarket and those at a traditional sportsbook, it might indicate an opportunity for value betting, depending on your own assessment of the players' chances.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe a particular player will win, the higher the price of shares representing that player. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly adjusting to incorporate new information and changing sentiment. The current volume traded indicates the level of interest in this match.
