Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, they can drive the odds on Polymarket in the opposite direction. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the players’ form and potential performance.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each player winning. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the odds adjust accordingly, creating a dynamic and responsive market. The current price of shares for each player indicates what the market as a whole believes is the probability of their victory in the Maanshan tennis match.
