Sportsbooks set their odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market’s odds are driven by actual money being wagered on the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of supply and demand within the prediction market. Comparing these odds can be a useful exercise for informed bettors, but it’s important to remember they represent distinct forecasting approaches.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, selling pressure drives prices down. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment.
