Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and then adjust based on betting action, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is mispricing a player's chances, they can take the opposite position, potentially driving the prediction market odds closer to what they perceive as the true probability. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before the event begins.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market efficiently incorporates new information as it becomes available, leading to dynamic price adjustments. The current trading volume suggests a level of interest in this match.
