Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market's odds are determined by the collective predictions of individual traders. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Analyzing these differences can be valuable for informed decision-making, as each source brings a unique approach to evaluating the probability of various outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a specific outcome. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect the collective sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. For example, a share priced at 40 means there is a 40% implied probability of that outcome being correct, according to the traders on Polymarket.
