Generally, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often converging towards probabilities that differ from those initially set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often establish lines to balance betting action, while this market is driven by individuals directly wagering on the outcome. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook’s odds are inaccurate, they can influence the price here, potentially offering a more accurate assessment of the true probability of either player winning. It’s common to see discrepancies, particularly before a lot of volume accumulates.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price reflects the collective assessment of all traders on Polymarket regarding the likelihood of either Josefina Estevez or Maria Florencia Urrutia winning the match. This dynamic pricing ensures the market stays responsive to new information and changing sentiment.
