Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a more accurate forecast than traditional sportsbook odds, as they aggregate the wisdom of the crowd. However, sportsbook odds can sometimes move faster to incorporate breaking news or expert analysis. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially early in the market’s lifecycle. This market, like others, may initially show differences, but as more information becomes available and more traders participate, the prediction market odds tend to converge towards a more informed probability assessment. Comparing the two can offer a broader perspective on the likely outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, and there are no external factors influencing the pricing mechanism. This dynamic pricing allows for a real-time assessment of the perceived likelihood of each outcome.
