Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, Polymarket allows traders to directly assess the probability of each outcome, potentially leading to more efficient pricing. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or the level of engagement from informed bettors. It’s common to see this market reflect the views of a more sophisticated and engaged betting community compared to the broader public reflected in sportsbook odds.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the share price will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective wisdom of the crowd.
