Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance their risk and ensure a profit, incorporating a 'vig' or commission. This market, however, is driven purely by the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. As a result, the probabilities reflected here can sometimes diverge from sportsbook odds, potentially offering value to informed bettors who can identify discrepancies. It’s important to compare and contrast to form your own informed opinion.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the prices adjust, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event's potential results. The current price reflects the aggregated sentiment of all participants trading on Polymarket.
