Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and incorporate a profit margin, while this market is driven by individuals trading on their own beliefs. If a significant difference emerges, it may indicate that the crowd believes the sportsbook is mispricing the event. It's common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbooks, especially in response to breaking news or late-developing insights about the competitors.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price fluctuates, providing a dynamic assessment of the event’s potential results. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket.
