Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of participants, potentially differing from those set by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, whereas this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of the prediction market as new information becomes available. It’s common to see prediction markets react more quickly to breaking news or shifts in public opinion than sportsbooks.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment among traders.
