Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often proving more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, especially as the event approaches. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and to balance action, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their money behind their beliefs. However, initial sportsbook lines may differ significantly, and it’s common to see convergence as more information becomes available and the event draws nearer. Discrepancies can present opportunities for arbitrage, but remember that prediction markets have their own risks and costs.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing the probability of each outcome. The price of a contract reflects the market’s collective belief about the likelihood of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy into a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market depth and trading volume influence how quickly prices adjust to new information. Traders are constantly adjusting their positions based on news, analysis, and their own insights, creating a dynamic pricing mechanism.
