Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market’s prices are determined solely by traders’ willingness to buy or sell. If a significant number of traders believe a specific outcome is more likely than sportsbooks suggest, the odds on Polymarket will shift accordingly. This can lead to opportunities for value betting, where the market price offers better odds than those found at conventional sportsbooks, assuming your assessment aligns with the market's collective intelligence.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores, and the price of each share reflects the market’s implied probability of that score occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a particular score, the higher its price rises, indicating increased confidence in that outcome. Conversely, selling shares drives the price down. This dynamic process ensures that the market price constantly adjusts to incorporate new information and changing sentiment among traders. The current trading volume indicates the level of interest in each possible score.
