Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Kalshi, often reflect a ‘wisdom of the crowd’ that can differ from traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market allows traders to express their independent beliefs. This can lead to discrepancies, especially when public sentiment strongly disagrees with the sportsbook's initial assessment. Furthermore, prediction markets generally have lower transaction costs, potentially leading to more efficient price discovery. It's common to see this market move independently of sportsbook lines, particularly as new information emerges.
Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi may differ due to variations in trader demographics, market design, and liquidity. Each platform attracts a different user base with potentially varying levels of expertise regarding the Bundesliga. Additionally, the specific mechanisms for trading and order execution on each platform can influence price formation. For example, Polymarket might have more active traders focusing on soccer, while Kalshi may see greater participation from general prediction market enthusiasts. This can result in differing probabilities for the same event, even with substantial volume across both.
