Generally, prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market is driven by individuals making their own predictions. It's common to see discrepancies between the two, especially early on, as prediction markets can quickly incorporate new information and adjust probabilities based on evolving sentiment. Analyzing these differences can be valuable for identifying potential value bets in either venue.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact score outcomes. The price of each share directly reflects the market’s probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate and express their views, the prices adjust accordingly, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the likely result. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This means that the price movements are solely determined by supply and demand within Polymarket, and do not reflect any external factors or comparisons to other venues.
