Generally, prediction markets like Polymarket often reflect information and insights not immediately captured by traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbook odds represent the views of bookmakers, this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd, potentially leading to different probabilities. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts. Comparing the two can offer a more comprehensive understanding of the expected result, though sportsbooks may offer different types of wagers not available here.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its shares will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the crowd and adjusts in real-time based on new information and trading activity.
