Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, analytical approaches, or simply varying levels of confidence in a particular outcome. It’s common to see this market move independently of sportsbook lines, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts leading up to the game.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the aggregated predictions of all participants, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the game's potential results. The current price indicates what the crowd believes is the likelihood of a particular result.
