Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of informed traders, and can sometimes diverge from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market is driven purely by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. It’s common to see differences, especially when there’s strong public sentiment or inside information not yet reflected in sportsbook lines. Comparing the two can offer a more comprehensive view of the potential outcome of the match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each exact score. As more shares are traded for a particular outcome, its price increases, indicating a higher perceived likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. Traders are constantly adjusting their positions based on new information, leading to dynamic price movements. This creates a market-driven forecast for the final result.
