Sportsbooks establish lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook’s odds are inaccurate, the prediction market price will adjust accordingly. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when public sentiment strongly favors one outcome, or when new information emerges that hasn’t been fully incorporated into sportsbook lines.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing potential outcomes. The price of a contract reflects the market’s probability of that outcome occurring; higher prices indicate a greater perceived chance. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders are incentivized to provide accurate predictions, as profitable traders are rewarded and those with inaccurate views may incur losses. This dynamic process leads to a market-determined price that reflects the collective intelligence of participants. The current price movements indicate how traders are interpreting available information about the matchup.
