Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to profit by balancing action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to trade their opinion. If a large number of people believe an outcome is more likely than a sportsbook suggests, the price will move in that direction. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges that isn't fully factored into sportsbook lines. This can create opportunities for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event's potential results. The current price indicates what the market believes is the fair probability of a particular player winning the Ursu vs. Burucenco match. The market's price discovery process is driven by supply and demand.
