Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on their own analysis, aiming to balance action on both sides, while this market’s odds are driven by traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the result. It’s common to see differences emerge as new information surfaces or public sentiment shifts, and those differences can sometimes indicate where the market believes the sportsbook is mispricing the event. Examining these differences can offer valuable insights into the perceived value of various outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who buy shares in a particular outcome, the higher its price becomes, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated to reflect the latest information and collective intelligence of the traders participating in this market.
