Typically, prediction market odds reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, often leading to more accurate probabilities than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks may incorporate biases or adjust lines to balance their risk, whereas this market is driven purely by individuals wagering their own capital. While sportsbook odds are readily available, this market offers a potentially more insightful view of the true probabilities, as it’s based on a wider range of informed opinions. It's common to see differences emerge between the two, especially as new information becomes available.
On Predict, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell contracts representing the probability of a specific outcome. The price of each contract fluctuates based on supply and demand, reflecting the collective belief of the traders. On Predict, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated and responsive to new information. Traders aim to profit by identifying discrepancies between their own assessment of the outcome and the market price, effectively 'betting' on their predictions.
