Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to express their own informed opinions. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, the prediction market odds will adjust accordingly. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before a lot of money has been wagered on either side. Comparing these odds can provide valuable insights into public perception and potential value bets, though it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, not guarantees.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment. The market’s efficiency depends on the number of participants and the information they bring to bear. Currently, the market is indicating a certain level of confidence in a particular outcome, as reflected in the share prices.
