Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while this market allows traders to directly assess probabilities. It's common to see discrepancies emerge as new information becomes available or as different groups of bettors weigh factors differently. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market's prices are driven by the collective wisdom of the crowd, potentially leading to differing viewpoints on the likely outcome of the fight.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in different outcomes. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand; there are no external factors influencing the pricing mechanism on Polymarket. This creates a dynamic and responsive market reflecting the collective predictions of traders.
