Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance betting action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the probability of each team scoring first. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by betting on both the prediction market and a sportsbook. However, it’s important to remember that these are distinct markets with different participants and motivations.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in whether UE Tavernes or Valencia CF will score first. As more shares are purchased for one outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price of a share indicates the market's implied probability of that outcome occurring. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants, adjusting in real-time to new information and opinions.
