Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert opinions, while this market allows anyone to participate and express their beliefs, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the collective intelligence of market participants. It’s common to see prediction markets react more quickly to new information than sportsbooks, especially regarding team news or injuries.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants.
