Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and can differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on models and internal analysis, while this market is driven by individuals trading based on their own information and beliefs. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before a significant amount of volume is traded. These differences can present opportunities for arbitrage, where traders attempt to profit from the mispricing between the two types of markets. Examining these differences can provide a broader perspective on the expected outcome.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing the probability of each team winning the first half. The price of each contract fluctuates based on supply and demand. As more people buy contracts for a particular outcome, the price increases, indicating a higher perceived probability.
